Professor Mag. Arch. Peter Schmid

Bringing lots of expertise in the field of Environment Conscious Building

With his unique experience linking environmental thinking with the world of Civil Engineering Peter Schmid has the capability to capture the audience and to persuade people to think different. He is a frequent guest and keynote speaker at national and international congresses and symposia. For 28 years he held the chair as full professor in Environment Conscious Building at the Technical University Eindhoven. When he started giving lectures in 1972, the sum of all on-site construction activities took up one third of the annual pollution and energy consumption. A true pioneer in his field, Peter Schmid says that we have to keep underlining the importance of making a mental shift in "how we should live" and "how we should build." After he reached his professor emeritus he remained committed to sustainable building and has been active as board member of the Dutch Foundation for Biological Architecture, the forerunner of the SVE. In this function he has initiated the SVE sustainable materials permanent exhibition, a unique concept for Northwest Europe.
Next to this he is board member and advisor of Green Cross Nederland.
